ABOUT US            Founded in 1972 as Crane Manufacturing the original Company became Crane interiors in 1984.  Under this  new private ownership it has grown from a struggling enterprise to becoming one of the most financially secure and  leading Marine Upholstery Suppliers in the USA.  As leaders in marine upholstery with the  mission of “meeting or exceeding our customers’ expectations,” the Crane Team provides some of the best engineering and manufacturing expertise available.      Since its inception Crane Manufacturing focused on serving the low-cost, entry-level boat producers.  That was a losing business model against better established suppliers and against “in house” upholstery operations.       In 1984, two young Ex-GE managers  purchased the asset of the distressed Crane Manufacturing and, to differentiate the new company, they changed the focus to provide high quality manufacturing and ethical practices with the best quality, delivery, and service to world- class marine boatbuilders.  They emphasized having the most competive TOTAL cost and provided unmatched support in the industry for the boat OEM both before and after the sale.      In the past thirty years the Marine Industry has gone through some significant changes. Small, marginally financed boat manufacturers with a history of high business failure rates were replaced by better managed, better financed organizations.  OEM boatbuilders  leveled out the seasonal demand cycles making easier for suppliers to serve them with lower costs and to retain a trained, high caliber workforce.  Likewise, they expected from their suppliers “just-in-time” deliveries and automotive caliber quality control procedures.        In 1988 the owners of Crane Interiors purchased Browns Manufacturing Company a successful tier 1 supplier of soft trim to heavy truck market and Peterbilt Motors in particular. With its expertise in the Automotive Industry, Browns brought major synergies to Crane in the way of QS9000 quality control methods, engineered products, and advanced accounting and information systems.       In 1989 the company with its key employess closed its dilapidated Nashville factory and moved to a new facility in Woodbury, TN.    New technologies interfaced with “old style hand craftsmanship” replaced old equipment to produce top of the line upholstered designs that are functional, durable and aesthetically pleasing.
